Raku-Fired Porcelain BowlThis is porcelain clay fired as if it were raku clay. A chancey proposition at best. But it worked! Thirteen porcelain bowls were thrown. bisque fired, painted inside with a clear glaze, and then sprayed with a very dilute iron oxide solution, they were then treated exactly like raku pieces. Brought up to temperature rapidly in a Raku Kiln, removed red hot with long iron tongs and rolled into sawdust, covered for 5 to 10 minutes then tossed into cold water. They all survived, which gives me great appreciation for the inherent qualities of porcelain clay! Status: 5 of the original 13 in the series still in montefin's collection. For MORE RAKU click here.
